Donor-conceived people

girl with joker cardThe Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority (HFEA) was established in 1991 and has, since its creation, recorded details of all conceptions involving donor eggs or sperm through licensed fertility clinics in the UK.

If you are a donor-conceived person conceived since 1 August 1991 at a UK licensed clinic, your birth details will be recorded on the HFEA Register of Information, together with information about your parents, your donor and any other children conceived with the same donor. The law gives you certain rights to access that information.

If you were conceived before 1 August 1991 or other than through a licensed clinic in the UK, there will be no central public record in the UK of the details of your conception. If you want to find out more about your genetic heritage, UK DonorLink may be able to help.
