About Gamble and Ghevaert LLP

about Gamble and Ghevaert

Gamble and Ghevaert LLP is the only fertility law firm in the UK and has a pre-eminent reputation as the leader in this field.  We offer high quality service, unrivalled experience and an unmatched public, media and political profile.

Our founding partners are Natalie Gamble and Louisa Ghevaert, both internationally recognised legal experts in UK fertility law.

Natalie pioneered the creation of fertility law in the UK (initially at law firm Lester Aldridge and then at Gamble and Ghevaert LLP), having been inspired by her own donor conceived family.  She and Louisa were the lawyers behind some of the UK's first groundbreaking fertility law cases including Re X and Y (the first UK case to ratify a commercial international surrogacy arrangement) and Melanie and Robert Gladwin (the high profile embryo storage case which led the Minister of Health to make emergency changes to the law last year).  Natalie also represented Andy Bathie, the sperm donor pursued by the CSA for maintenance payments, and has helped to win new legal rights for same sex parents.  She is a prominent media commentator, respected author and public speaker, and acts as an expert advisor in Parliamentary and political circles.

Louisa is internationally recognised as a leading expert in UK fertility law, and has a decade of experience of complex family and children law.  Together with Natalie, she represented the parents in groundbreaking fertility law cases Re X and Y (the first UK case to ratify a commercial international surrogacy arrangement) and Melanie and Robert Gladwin (the high profile embryo storage case).  She is a widely published and respected author on fertility and parenting law, an accomplished public speaker and advises and lobbies Parliamentary and political circles.  Louisa is recommended by assisted reproduction lawyers across the globe and has been an expert speaker and adviser to the American Bar Association's national conference in Montreal.

What makes us different?

We are the only solicitors in the UK with significant and sustained experience dealing with UK and international surrogacy, donor conception and co-parenting, fertility treatment and embryo law.

We provide high quality expert advice to clients from all over the world, and work closely with all the leading organisations working in the sector, including Stonewall, COTS, Surrogacy UK, the Donor Conception Network, Infertility Network UK and Fertility Friends (see our 'What People Say About Us' page) as well as the government, members of Parliament and the HFEA.

We also pride ourselves on our difference of approach.  We cater for a diverse range of families, including gay and lesbian couples, single women, single men, and married and unmarried couples.  A far cry from what you might expect from traditional lawyers, we are approachable, open-minded and sensitive, and have a strong positive focus on helping people (who have often suffered great adversity) to build a family.  Our years of practical experience working in the sector give us a unique and impartial perspective, and we help many clients explore all their options from a practical as well as a legal perspective (see our Family Building Services page).

We are utterly passionate about what we do which is why we have created a leading online resource in our website, which provides a vast amount of free information and advice about fertility and parenting law.  We also campaign relentlessly, both publicly and behind the scenes, for improvements to the law and policy which will benefit fertility patients and families created and structured in alternative ways (see our Public Service Work page).

As well as helping individuals, we work with professionals in the fertility and alternative family sectors and public authorities, providing expert advice, training, help with patient materials and consultancy (see our Services for Professionals page).
